Crisis Intervention Training

(A work in progress)

We have been developing a relationship with the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Police Department, in order to bring to their attention the very successful, CIT Training (Crisis Intervention Training) Program for officers, which originally began in Memphis, Tennessee.

This program is moving it's way to other states and has been successfully established in New London, Connecticut.

The course consists of a 40-hour training curriculum that enables officers to understand that mental illness is not a crime, but a disease.

The training program was established to develop and implement safe, proactive and preventative methods of containing emotionally explosive situations that could lead to violence.

Nami-Fairfield is working on forming a partnership with other Nami Affiliates and their perspective towns, to pursue this project together and make it a reality.
