Marshall Rosier to speak at
the Annual Meeting of the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board
The Southwest Regional Mental Health Board, Inc. is pleased to announce that Marshall Rosier, Executive Director of the Connecticut Certification Board, Inc. will be speaking at our annual meeting on June 21st at 4:00 PM in the Community Room at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk.
The topic of “Co-Occurring Recovery: Emerging Models of Integrated Care” should be of great interest to consumers, family members, mental health professionals and the general public. Current reports and studies reveal the alarming numbers of those with mental health disorders who simultaneously struggle with substance abuse. Data indicates these illnesses frequently co-exist. The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that of all people diagnosed with mental illness, 29 percent currently abuse either alcohol or drugs and that 60 percent will abuse either alcohol or other drugs during their lifetime. Now becoming known as those “dually-diagnosed”, professionals are becoming more aware that specialized programming is needed to treat those dually-diagnosed. Across the state, mental health programs are beginning to focus on the special challenges of this population and to educate and train staff. It is becoming apparent that mental health services must also integrate services and treatment for addiction disorders in order to assist many toward a successful recovery. Rosier will highlight a number of emerging models of recovery-oriented and integrated care for people with co-occurring illness.
Marshall Rosier is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Certification Board, Inc. where he is actively involved in workforce development, credentialing and developing recovery-oriented and competency-based standards for behavioral health professionals in the State of Connecticut. He is a published author, consultant and trainer specializing in co-occurring substance use and mental disorders, for example he recently coordinated programming for a large outpatient methadone maintenance program. His area of influence goes beyond Connecticut into the international realm, as he serves as co-chair of the co-occurring disorders committee of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium.
Rosier graduated from Yale University with a Masters of Science in Psychology, with a specialty in social cognition and esteem and received his early training at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics in San Francisco, California. He has received certification as a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (CCDP) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
